Lions maul Titans in rain hit Jukskei showdown
The DP World Lions cruised to a 120 run win over the Momentum Multiply Titans in their CSA 1Day Cup clash in a rain reduced Jukskei derby at the DP World Wanderers on Sunday. Set a revised target of 235 from 32 overs, the visitors never recovered from an early collapse and were bowled out for 114 on a difficult afternoon in Johannesburg.
Two delays – first a 15 minute postponement to the start of play and later an extended rain interruption that reduced the overs – did little to disrupt the Lions, who once again showed their ability to adapt to stop start conditions.

Sent in to bat by the Titans, the Lions were briefly checked when Zubayr Hamza edged behind early, but Reeza Hendricks and Temba Bavuma quickly restored order. Hendricks settled into his innings with trademark composure, absorbing the new ball pressure before gradually expanding his range. His knock was built on patience and placement, punctuated by seven fours and two sixes as he began to dictate terms.
Bavuma provided the ideal foil, rotating strike efficiently and threading five boundaries through the infield on his way to 43 from 45 balls. Their partnership grew steadily in authority, with the Lions well placed to accelerate in the latter stages before the weather intervened once more.
Rain halted play with the Lions on 162 for 2 after 32.3 overs, leaving Hendricks unbeaten on 82 from 106 balls and Bavuma on 43, both denied the opportunity to push on. The interruption ultimately set the Titans a challenging revised target, but any hope of a reset proved short lived.
The Titans’ chase unravelled almost immediately. Lhuan dre Pretorius was trapped leg before by Beyers Swanepoel at 13 for 1 inside the powerplay, and the pressure continued to mount. Keegan Petersen attempted to stabilise the innings but was caught by Hendricks off Bjorn Fortuin at 44 for 2, before Rivaldo Moonsamy was bowled by the same bowler at 61 for 3 as the asking rate climbed.
Wickets then fell in quick succession. Dayyaan Galiem was dismissed leg before by Shaun von Berg at 66 for 4, and Donovan Ferreira perished attempting to force the pace, caught by Hamza off Fortuin at 71 for 5. Neil Brand followed soon after, caught by Fortuin off von Berg at 75 for 6, leaving the Titans in deep trouble midway through the chase.
Any remaining resistance faded as the lower order was exposed. Duan Jansen was caught by Wandile Makwetu off Hendricks at 97 for 7, before Junior Dala fell at 106 for 8. Andile Phehlukwayo, the top scorer, was trapped leg before by Hendricks at 114 for 9, and Tshepo Ndwandwa became the final wicket, caught by Codi Yusuf off Hendricks as the Titans were bowled out in the 21st over.
The Lions’ bowling effort was underpinned by discipline and control, with Fortuin’s accuracy through the middle overs proving particularly effective in stalling any momentum. Swanepoel’s early breakthrough set the tone, while Hendricks capped a fine all round day by claiming three wickets late in the innings to close out the contest.
The emphatic nature of the collapse underlined the Lions’ dominance on a day shaped by weather but decided by execution, as the hosts sealed a commanding 120 run victory in the rain affected Jukskei derby.
