Pirates, Stellies big winners as Galaxy's woes continue

Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC were the big winners on Matchday 19 of the Betway Premiership, as TS Galaxy's struggles continued.

An emphatic 3-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby elevated Pirates to the top of the standings, with Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa scoring in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Chiefs slipped down to the fifth spot in the standings on Sunday after Durban City claimed a 1-0 over Marumo Gallants courtesy of Saziso Magawana's goal in Pretoria, elevating the KZN side to fourth place.

Pirates are only ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns on goal difference, as Masandawana overcame Sekhukhune United 3-1 on Sunday in Pretoria, with Iqraam Rayners (brace) and Marcelo Allende scoring on the day.

Meanwhile, Galaxy extended their losing streak to four matches in the league when they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Siwelele FC on Saturday in Bloemfontein, with Chibuike Ohizu scoring the only goal.

In the Winelands, Stellenbosch FC boosted their top eight ambitions when they emerged as 1-0 winners over AmaZulu FC on Friday, thanks to Ibraheem Jabaar's first-half goal, which saw Stellies move up to ninth place.

Magesi FC remained rock bottom after losing 2-0 to Polokwane City in Seshego on Saturday, while Orbit College missed the chance to climb out of the relegation zone when they drew 0-0 with Richards Bay in Rustenburg.
