The 2026 MotoGP season reaches its summer break after Round 11 at the Sachsenring Germany, and the title fight could hardly be tighter.

The top five riders are separated by just 24 points, setting up a fascinating second half of the campaign.

GERMAN GRAND PRIX RECAP

Marc Márquez reminded everyone why Sachsenring is known as his kingdom, producing a perfect weekend by winning both the Sprint and Grand Prix. The reigning world champion claimed his 10th premier-class victory at the circuit, matching Giacomo Agostini's record.

The big losers were Fabio Di Giannantonio and Alex Márquez, both crashing out while in strong positions, while championship contender Marco Bezzecchi was sidelined after breaking his collarbone in qualifying.

THE STORY SO FAR

Jorge Martin – Still Leading Martin remains on top with 208 points, but his advantage has shrunk considerably. After dominating parts of the season, recent rounds have seen rivals close the gap, and he heads into the break with just a 14-point cushion.

Ai Ogura – The Surprise Package The Japanese rookie has become the story of the season. His second-place finish in Germany elevated him to second in the standings, making him Martin's closest challenger. Trackhouse Aprilia's rise has been remarkable.

Marc Márquez – Charging Back A few races ago Márquez was more than 100 points off the lead. A strong run of form, capped by the Sachsenring double, has brought him to within just 18 points of Martin. Momentum is firmly on the Ducati rider's side.

Marco Bezzecchi – From Hunter to Hunted Bezzecchi led the championship earlier in the season but his German GP injury was a major setback. Missing both races at Sachsenring dropped him to fourth overall.

Pecco Bagnaia – Still in the Fight? The two-time champion sits 65 points off the lead. While not out of contention mathematically, he'll need a significant turnaround in form after the break.

TEAM BATTLE

Aprilia is the standout manufacturer of 2026. Martin and Bezzecchi at the factory team, combined with Ogura and Fernandez at Trackhouse, have given the Italian marque four riders inside the top six of the standings.

LOOKING AHEAD

The championship resumes at Silverstone (7–9 August), where attention will focus on:

Whether Martin can hold off the chasing pack.

If Ogura can sustain his title challenge.

Márquez's charge toward another championship.

Bezzecchi's recovery from injury.
