Joe Root finished on 99 not out as England beat India by four wickets to win the second one-day international in Cardiff on Thursday and level the three-match series at 1-1.

England, set 234 for victory, finished on 235-6, as they won with 35 balls to spare at Sophia Gardens. They were in trouble at 94-4 before Root took charge. He was denied what would have been his 21st ODI hundred when Gus Atkinson hit a winning boundary off Prasidh Krishna.
