England's Cross to retire from cricket at the end of the season

England women's cricket stalwart Kate Cross announced on Friday she will retire from the professional game at the end of the current domestic season.

The 34-year-old, who made her senior county debut for Lancashire aged just 13 in 2005, took 140 wickets in 102 England appearances across all formats and has also forged a successful career as a cricket podcaster.

Cross, who last played for England just over a year ago, said she looked back at her cricket career with "pride and gratitude".

"I want to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support throughout my career, and every teammate, past and present, who I've shared a dressing room with," she added.

"I've certainly had plenty of highs and lows throughout my career and they've always been there for me."

Cross, the daughter of FA Cup-winning footballer David Cross, played a key as Lancashire won the T20 County Cup and One-Day Cup double last season.
