KZN inland cricket posts record surplus as union looks to a stronger future

KZN Inland Cricket Union celebrated another milestone year at its 5th Annual General Meeting held at the historic Pietermaritzburg Oval, announcing a clean audit, record financial results and renewed optimism for the future of cricket across the region.

The Union recorded its strongest financial performance to date, reporting a significant operating surplus while once again achieving a clean audit—underscoring the organisation's commitment to sound governance, accountability and sustainable growth.

CEO Jason Sathiaseelan said the achievements reflected the resilience of the organisation despite a challenging operating environment."The past year has been one of both challenges and achievements. While we encountered obstacles along the way, we have continued to strengthen our governance structures, expand our cricket programmes, invest in infrastructure and maintain sound financial management. These achievements are the result of the collective efforts of our Board, staff, coaches, volunteers, sponsors andstakeholders who continue to believe in the vision of KZN Inland Cricket."

The Union continues to invest heavily in growing the game from grassroots through to professional cricket, while improving facilities and creating greater opportunities for players, coaches, officials and volunteers throughout the six districts that make up the KZN Inland region. One of the biggest challenges remains the condition and availability of cricket facilities across the province. Despite these constraints, the Union acknowledged the remarkable efforts of district committees, schools, clubs, volunteers and dedicated groundsmen who have ensured that cricket continues to flourish throughout the region.

President Goolam Amod described the 2025/26 season as a landmark year for the Union."Looking back, I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and the strong position in which we now find ourselves. Financially, this has been the strongest year in our history, with record-breaking profits that provide a solid platform to continue investing in cricket throughout our region."

He reaffirmed the Union's commitment to ensuring cricket remains accessible to every community."Our primary objective will always be to make cricket accessible to everyone while continuing to strengthen and grow our Union. Every investment we make is focused on creating opportunities and ensuring the long-term sustainability of cricket across KZN Inland."

While the season produced many highlights, the relegation of the Moothee Ram Tuskers from Division 1 remained a disappointing chapter. However, Mr Sathiaseelan believes the setback will serve as motivation rather than define the future.

"Relegation was undoubtedly disappointing for everyone associated with the Tuskers. However, thisUnion has shown resilience before. The Tuskers have earned promotion to Division 1 on two previous occasions and we have every confidence that we will rebuild, come back stronger and return to the top division. Our focus is firmly on creating a sustainable, competitive environment that will deliver longterm success."

Beyond the financial achievements, the AGM highlighted another year of investment in youth development, women's cricket, club cricket, coaching, transformation programmes and community cricket initiatives that continue to strengthen the game's footprint throughout the region.

The Union concluded the meeting by expressing its sincere appreciation to its Board of Directors, Members' Council, sponsors, staff, coaches, district committees, clubs, volunteers, players, officials and supporters whose unwavering commitment has contributed to another successful year.

With strong governance, healthy finances and a clear strategic vision, KZN Inland Cricket believes it is well positioned to continue growing the game and building a successful future both on and off the field.
