Mamelodi Sundowns made it 10 consecutive wins in the Betway Premiership after they edged Durban City 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday, April 7.

Tsiki Ntsabeleng's 10th-minute strike kept Miguel Cardoso's side at the top of the table as they maintained their two-point lead over Orlando Pirates, who thumped Golden Arrows 5-0 in a concurrent match.

The Citizens dropped down to sixth place on goal difference after Sekhukhune United climbed above them courtesy of a 2-2 draw with AmaZulu.

City were fresh from booking their place in the Nedbank Cup final after beating Casric Stars 1-0 on Saturday, while Bafana Ba Style hammered 4-1 Chippa United 4-1 a day earlier to make it nine league wins on the spin.

Masandawana wasted little time in asserting their dominance as a slick passing move ended with Ntsabeleng firing home from inside the box on 10 minutes to open his account in the top flight.

The visitors went in search of more goals and Arthur Sales saw his cheeky backheel cleared off the line in the 14th minute before the Brazilian was denied by the woodwork four minutes later with Darren Keet well beaten.

Aubrey Modiba threatened with a first-time shot that forced Keet into a save following a free-kick in the 24th minute and Ntsabeleng sent a well-struck volley over the crossbar on 37 minutes.

Pitso Dladla's side managed to stay in the contest at halftime, but their goal soon came under siege again in the second half when a side-footed attempt from Brayan Leon clipped the outside of the post on 50 minutes.

The chances continued to come, with Tashreeq Matthews cutting inside from the right and flashing a shot wide in the 52nd minute before Leon steered a header over the target from Khuliso Mudau's cross on the hour mark.

Cardoso threw on a few of his big guns in the closing stages in a bid to close out the game, including Teboho Mokoena, Iqraam Rayners and Themba Zwane, but the second goal would not come.
