The Springbok Sevens side have the perfect opportunity to go into the lead of the HSBC World Sevens Series as they moved into the final of the Vancouver Sevens with a 19-12 win over Australia in their Cup semifinal.

The Blitzboks will face Spain in the final at 2:34am (CAT, GMT+2) and if they win they will take over the lead of the series going into the final tournament in New York next weekend after log leaders Fiji were shocked by the Spanish upstarts in the other semifinal.

The Blitzboks will be confident ahead of the final as they beat Spain 28-7 in their pool game, but will know they need to be at their best to ensure they win their third title of the season and second in a row after being on top in Perth a few weeks back.

An early try from Ronald Brown set the pace before a double hit by Australia’s Aden Ekanayake gave the Wallabies a five-point lead at the break.

A strong second half and a strong bench made the difference for the Blitzboks as David Brits levelled matters early in the second half and then a signature try from playmaker Selvyn Davids sealed the game.

Spain shocked Fiji 24-17 in their semifinal to book their spot in the final.
