Olympic champion Masai Russell set a new world record in the women's 100m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Zurich on Thursday.

The 26-year-old American clocked 12.09 seconds to beat the previous best of 12.12sec set by Nigeria's Tobi Amusan at the Eugene world championships in 2022.

Russell, whose previous best was 12.14sec, dominated the race, with a fast start setting her out into the front from the first two hurdles.

"Competing in a world record race is amazing," said Amusan, who came second in a season's best of 12.23sec.

"I came out here and I did my best and I am happy with this SB."
