CURRENT FORM

Abafana Bes'thende are coming off a narrow 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, leaving them winless in two matches following a goalless draw against Polokwane City before that.

Arrows, who reached the Nedbank Cup semifinals on multiple occasions, including 2017 and 2019, are hoping to go all the way under the leadership of the experienced Manqoba Mngqithi, a winner of this tournament as co-head coach with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022.

Meanwhile, City, newly promoted to the top flight this season, have shown solid form with recent results including a 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, which extended their unbeaten run to five matches across all competitions.

City, under interim coach Pitso Dladla, who has steadied the ship amid recent coaching changes, will look to humble Arrows in this local derby and continue their impressive cup run against their more established neighbours, having reached the Nedbank Cup in 2018 as Maritzburg United.

TEAM NEWS

There are no suspension issues for either side in this Nedbank Cup fixture. However, Golden Arrows are expected to be without Lungelo Dube, who is nursing a long-term injury.

WHAT WAS SAID?

Golden Arrows midfielder Velemseni Ndwandwe

“Durban City is a good team, and they have a good team as well as a good keeper in Darren Keet,” Ndwandwe said.

“The team is growing and so is the experience and the confidence, so the mission for us is to just get the job done on the day.”

Durban City winger Ronaldo Maarman

"We were hoping to play at home, but we are still home for a Durban derby against Arrows," Maarman said.

"And you can put money on the fact that it will be a good game of football, especially at this stage of the competition, where the elite face the elite. We will only get better from this game, going further into the competition."
