Although Atang Swaartbooi only took his shot at the SuperSport MVP Search on the last day, he was confident that his journey with sports throughout the years would be enough to help put his foot in the door.

The LLB Masters student, who has taken part in sports most of his life, admired how sports can bring people together but also change their lives. This was a sign that he could pursue a life bringing people together through sport.

“I’ve always had a passion for people, for humanity, talking and engaging people. That is where it all started. I grew up loving sports, my love for sport started with me playing. It started with someone teaching me cricket and that is where it grew.

OVERSEAS

"I have travelled overseas with sports, cricket to be specific but I used to do a whole host of sports including rugby, cross country and hockey. I got exposed to a lot of sports at a young age."

"I saw this opportunity and with the two coming together, what better way than combining my love for presenting and sports together? I saw the opportunity on deadline day, I just took a chance and submitted the video,” he says.

Atang believes his energetic personality will be important in engaging viewers of sports.

“I developed a passion and real love for emceeing and presenting. I just bring energy, versatility and a fresh new look to the table."

As an anchor you need to be able to engage with all kinds of people, be in the moment and be present. I am hoping all of this will be showcased when I land on any platform that SuperSport gives me,” he says.

The 2019 Cricket World Cup final between New Zealand and England remains the best sporting event he has experienced and hopes to one day cover such events.
