NEW DSTV PACKAGES: Sport explained

So, you’ve heard DStv is making available a whole new package offering, and you’re wondering how this affects your sports options?

Well, you’ve come to the right place as we’ll break it down so you are able to make the most informed decision based on your sporting favourites.

SAME GREAT CONTENT, BETTER OPTIONS

The new packages are simpler, clearer and offer more of what you want: more sport, more channels, and fewer repeats – all available from 17 September 2026. This initially applies to SA only, with the rollout into the rest of Africa happening later in the year.

Changes include new package names, revised channel lineups, a Sports package, a new Movies & Series package, updated pricing and automatic migration. 

The six core packages are designed to make great content more accessible. In South Africa, there is:  

•    Starter (85+ channels, from R99 PM)
•    Select (100+ channels from R299 PM)
•    Sports (115+ channels from R399 PM)
•    Movies & Series (115+ channels, R500 PM)
•    Premium (130+ channels, from R799 PM) (unchanged offering)
•    EasyView (35+ channels for R30 PM) (unchanged offering)

STARTER – from R99 p/m

Our starter package comes in from R99, and offers over 85 channels. The key sports notes are:

•    Full access to LaLiga channel
•    Full access to the new Kickoff channel, whose live weekly offering will include 2 Betway Prem matches, the Premier League Match of the Week on a Sunday, and a live game from each of Serie A, Ligue 1, UCL and Europa
•    Full access to the Blitz channel
•    Full access to the Africa channel, which includes a second Premier League match and local SA sport such as basketball, boxing, netball, CAF Inter Club, Varsity sport, Diski Challenge and local studio shows.

SELECT – from R299 p/m

The Select package comes in fromn R299, and offers over 100 channels. The key sports notes are:

•    All the sport available on the Starter package, as well as…
•    Full access to the PSL channel
•    Full access to the Football channel

MOVIES & SERIES – from R500 p/m

The Movies & Series package comes in at R500, and offers over 115 channels. As the name suggest, the emphasis here is additional movie and series entertainment, while the sport remains the same as the Select package.

SPORTS – from R399 p/m

The Sports package comes in from R399, and offers over 115 channels. The key sports notes are:

•    All the sport available on the Starter and Select packages, as well as…
•    Full access to the Premier League channel
•    Full access to the Action channel, with a major focus on fight sport
•    On the rugby front, every Currie Cup match will be live, along with one URC match per week
•    Full access to the cricket channel, including all men’s and women’s Protea matches
•    Full access to all the streaming channels

PREMIUM – from R799 p/m

The Premium package comes in from R799, offering over 130 channels and all the sports SuperSport has to offer. The key sports notes are:

•    All the sport available on the Starter, Select and Sports packages, as well as…
•    Full access to the Grandstand channel
•    Full access to the Rugby channel
•    Full access to the Golf, Tennis and Motorsport channels
•    An additional Extra channel, which will house overflow from golf, tennis and motorsport in the main

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why are DStv packages changing?
To make DStv’s offering simpler for customers and to give customers more choice when they choose a DStv package.

When do the changes take effect?
The migration starts on 17 September 2026, and the new packages will be available to new subscribers from that date as well.

Will my price increase?
No, once you're automatically migrated you won’t pay more for your new package.

Will my package change automatically?
Yes, you don’t need to do anything unless you’d prefer to choose a different package from the one you’re automatically migrated to.

Which package are Compact Plus customers migrating to?
Compact Plus customers stay on their current package, unless they choose to change package. Compact Plus will no longer be available for new subscriptions.

How do I know which package I’m on?
You can check your current package via the MyDStv app, WhatsApp self-service channel or website, or by contacting DStv Customer Care.

Do I need a new decoder?
No, you don’t need a new decoder.

Do I need to update my DStv Stream app?
No, you don’t need to do that. Any updates will be deployed as normal.

Where can I compare packages?

Are these changes coming to countries outside South Africa?
Any changes in countries outside South Africa will be communicated as soon as they are confirmed.

Am I getting fewer channels?
No. Starter, Select and Sports get more channels than before. Premium and Compact Plus remain unchanged, and Movies & Series is a new package.

Are any channels closing or changing?
Yes, some channels are closing. But that doesn’t mean you’re losing any entertainment. We’re refining the DStv channel line-up to reduce repeats and concentrate on fewer, stronger channels.
