The league got back underway on Monday evening at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with champions Sundowns returning to the top of the log with a 2-0 win over Orbit College.

Arthur Sales (21’) and Brayan Leon (64’) netted for the Brazilians as they leapfrogged Orlando Pirates to pole position (29 points to 28) – though the Buccaneers now have two games in hand.

Tuesday saw Kaizer Chiefs move to within two points of Sundowns and claim third place on the log thanks to a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium – courtesy of a 39th minute goal from Aden McCarthy.

At the same time, Sekhukhune United relinquished their place in the top three with a 1-0 defeat at home to Stellenbosch FC. The Western Cape side claimed the win and opened a four-point buffer to the relegation playoff zone thanks to a 32nd minute strike from new signing Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Wednesday’s lone game saw TS Galaxy rise to fifth place with a 2-0 home win over Marumo Gallants at the Mbombela Stadium.

The Rockets triumphed via second-half goals from Mory Keita and Victor Letsoalo in the 57th and 67th minutes respectively, as Bahlabane Ba Ntwa extended their winless run to five league outings and remained in 12th place.

The Betway Premiership continues with five matches across the coming weekend, headlined by Saturday’s clash between Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates in Polokwane.
