Siwelele FC snatched a dramatic late 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in a tightly contested Betway Premiership encounter at the Toyota Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The hard-fought triumph—their maiden win of the campaign—offered much-needed relief to the Free State outfit, elevating them to 14th on the league table. Conversely, it was an agonising setback for Polokwane City, whose winless run now extends to eight matches across all competitions, leaving them languishing in 11th position.

In a compelling twist of fate, Siwelele will now shift their focus to the Carling Knockout Cup, where they are set to lock horns once again with Polokwane City in the Last 16, as they eye back-to-back victories over their rivals.

Siwelele dominated possession, with Tebogo Potsane proving particularly incisive for the hosts. Despite carving out several promising chances, the hosts were consistently thwarted by the veteran goalkeeper, Oscarine Masuluke.

The former FIFA Puskás Award nominee produced a trio of first-half saves to keep the score deadlocked at the interval, leaving Siwelele thoroughly aggrieved by their lack of a breakthrough, and the score was 0-0 at halftime.

Both teams pressed relentlessly for the breakthrough following the restart, prompting coach Godfrey Mosoetsa to introduce Michel N'Guessan in the 87th minute—the very man who had announced himself with a debut goal against Kaizer Chiefs.

The Ivorian forward duly delivered, snatching a dramatic winner in the 90th minute to secure Siwelele's first win of the campaign, having finally beaten the Masuluke to send the home supporters inside the venue into raptures.
