As the DStv Diski Challenge title race begins to take shape, Siwelele FC’s coach, Godfrey Mosoetsa, has sparked intrigue by asserting that his team is not focused on winning the league.

With the pressure mounting ahead of their highly anticipated match against second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday at the UJ Soweto Campus, Mosoetsa's comments set the stage for a strategic showdown.

Currently sitting in third place with 32 points from 16 matches, Siwelele finds themselves just one point behind their rivals, Sundowns. A victory this weekend would propel Siwelele into second place, trailing only Pirates, the current log leaders with 40 points. On paper, Siwelele boasts with one of the strongest squads capable of challenging for the DDC title; however, Mosoetsa remains resolute in his approach.

“Our primary goal is to help these players gain invaluable experience and prepare them for first-team football,” Mosoetsa explained.

“If we divert our attention to winning the league, we risk losing sight of what truly matters. While we respect the leaders, we are not fixated on chasing them. Our focus is on developing our boys.”

The forthcoming clash promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Sundowns arriving buoyed by a commanding 3-0 victory over Magesi FC last weekend. Conversely, Siwelele also enjoyed a solid performance, defeating Richards Bay 2-0.

Mosoetsa acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by Sundowns but emphasized his team's intent to make their opponents feel the pressure of playing away from home.

“I’ve told my players that we must show our strength when we are playing at home. Our opponents need to feel the weight of that challenge,” he concluded.

In their previous meeting, the two teams played to a tense draw, setting the stage for what promises to be another captivating contest
