Lhuan-dre Pretorius smashed an astonishing, world record 188 from just 79 balls to lead the Momentum Multiply Titans to a convincing 124-run bonus-point victory against the Flexbrands Knights In their YesPlay Pro20 Cup match at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Friday night.

The Titans finished with a monstrous total of 267-3 before the beleaguered and bewildered home side were dismissed for 143 despite defiant innings of 32 from 12 balls from openers Jacques Snyman and 39 from Gihan Cloete. Captain Donovan Ferreira claimed 3-16 from four overs with his spirited off-breaks.

Pretorius claimed the record for any T20 innings from West Indian legend, Chris Gayle, who bashed 175 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against the Pune Warriors in the 2013 season of the IPL. The highest score at international level belongs to Australian opener Aaron Finch who scored 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018.

Pretorius was in devastating form against a toothless bowling attack on the flattest of pitches launching 15 fours and no less than 13 sixes, at least four of which were mis-hits which just cleared the boundary fielders whose fingers were not long enough.

Titans captain, Ferreira, hammered 29 from 11 balls to put the game way beyond the Knights but the story was all Pretorius whose power was unstoppable. Pulls and hooks were commonplace, as were straight drives, but the slap for six over cover, once a rarity, looked regular. It was an extraordinary display of hitting. All seven Knights bowlers conceded over 10 per over.

Elsewhere the DP World Lions lost by six-wickets to the North West Dragons at the Wanderers in Johannesburg after captain Mitchell van Buuren (66), veteran Rassie van der Dussen (46) and Delano Potgieter (39* from 15 balls) had led the home side to 205-5.

Dragons opener, Wihan Lubbe, scored 55 from 27 balls to give the visitors a flying start and Diego Rosier (45 from 25 balls) upped the tempo in the middle overs hope before Dian Forrester clinched the game with four balls to spare with n unbeaten 51 from just 28 balls with five fours and three sixes.

The afternoon math saw the Mpumalanga Rhinos snatch an impressive victory by 17-runs against the Moothee Ram Tuskers in White River. Bryn Brokensha’s unbeaten 44 from just 21 balls pushed the home side to 159-4 before the visitors were dismissed for 142 despite a fiery 40 from opener Jack Lees and 50 from captain Cameron Shekleton.
