Ashley Du Preez has returned to Stellenbosch in a permanent transfer from Kaizer Chiefs as part of the deal that saw Langelihle Phili go to AmaKhosi on Monday.

The 29-year-old Du Preez returns to the club where he started his professional career with Stellenbosch FC in 2016 and made 98 appearances across all competitions during a six-year spell before joining Chiefs in 2022.

Ten years ago this month, Du Preez featured in Stellenbosch’s first-ever match when he came on as a substitute during the National First Division clash against Mthatha Bucks.

The speedy striker was at Chiefs for four seasons but last season started only five games and failed to score.

“I always knew that I would come back to Stellenbosch,” Du Preez said in a statement released by the club.

“It’s great to be back where I grew up and at the club where it all started for me, and to be part of the Stellenbosch family again.

“The community knows me well and has supported me since the start of my professional career, so being a local player and representing the club again is a huge honour and privilege for me. It’s an amazing feeling to be back.”

Du Preez, who wore No 9 at Chiefs, has been handed the No 10 jersey and is in line to make his debut when Stellenbosch take on Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership away on Tuesday, August 11.
